It’s a little thing that America has perfected and that is the “art of capitalism!” Now that Disney has placed it’s Mickey Mouse ears on Marvel (and everything that they own), every studio out there is doing everything in their power to make some profit off of their existing contracts with Marvel’s characters, before they are kicked over indefinitely to the House of Mouse.

The most notable of these projects is Sony’s reboot of the Spider-man franchise. Yes, a reboot. It hasn’t even been a full decade since the first Spider-man film hit theaters and already they are trying to wipe the slate clean.

Donald Glover

They have started the casing process and many, many, MANY, rumors have hit the internet to speculate. While we can literally talk about this for days (and we did with Captain America), the purpose of this article is the Facebook campaign that has been launched in favor of getting Donald Glover to be the new face of the Spider-man franchise.

This is one casting choice that has left me saying, over and over again, “Hell no!”

Please bare in mind, I think that Donald is a very talented kid, not to mention absolutely hilarious as a series regular on NBS’s Community. While Donald does posses a lot of the qualities of Peter Parker, quite naturally I might add, he’s not Peter Parker. The reality is, Peter Parker is a nerdy white kid.

I’m all for ethnic diversity, especially in the media. However, I am a huge comic book fan and I don’t like the idea of changing the identities of characters that have become imbedded into pop culture for decades. My interest is staying true to these characters.

I like it would be equally upsetting (if not more) if they went around casting “white-folks” for such roles as, Storm (X-Men), Blade, Luke Cage, Black Panther, Falcon (Avengers), Bishop (X-Men), Steel, War Machine, and Vixen. Can you even imagine that actually happening? There would be an uproar.

In the Daredevil film, the villain of the Kingpin was changed from white to black when they cast Michael Clark Duncan. Please bare in mind, Michael Clark Duncan (regardless of race) is possibly the only actor on the planet that has the star-power and the build that it required for the role.

As a far as advertising and merchandising is concerned, this would cause a problem. Comic book sales tend to explode for any given title that has a film coming out. Marvel especially likes to tie into all of it. If Donald Glover was cast, comic book tie in would be completely out of the question.

I understand that is is opening up a whole other conversation about equality as well as a time when most Superheroes were white. In recent years, comic books have tried to expand the ethnicity of their characters. X-Men has several African American characters, John Stewart is an African American Green Lantern, James Rhodes has even taken the mantle of Iron Man time and time again.

Donald Glover is a fit for Spider-man in many, many ways. The idea alone does intrigue me and the reality of it would be interesting as well. I’m a completely on the fence on this issue. It’s hard to make a definitive call and I think that there are valid arguments for both sides.

However, I truly believe that when it comes to casting someone for this characters, you already have an idea what you are looking for. The actors are supposed to embody these characters and unfortunately, most of that is already dictated for them.

Internet campaigns are becoming a “thing” since the fans rallied to get Betty White to host Saturday Night Live! and it actually worked! NOT audition the guy, would be absolutely silly and Stan Lee has already given his support for Donald to get a chance to read.

Casting results should be revealed soon. If you are behind the Donald Glover movement you can join the movement here.

And so it begins!!!

While I have dedicated this site mainly to films, I still appreciate all things nerdy! San Diego Comic Con International is a sacred event for me every single year. I literally drop everything in my life and head off to San Diego, California as if it were my person Mecca.

The official programming guide isn’t posted until 10 days prior to the show, but the television Networks are already starting to post their intentions to attend this years event. Now the show is 40 days away, it’s no time like the present!

Here’s a little breakdown of what some of the programming at Comic Con International 2010 is going to look like:

V, Castle, No Ordinary Family, Big Bang Theory, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fringe, Chuck, Human Target, Supernatural, Smallville, Sons of Anarchy, Glee, Family Guy, the Simpsons, American Dad, and the Cleveland Show, among many others.

While most of these shows will find a home in Ballroom 20, let’s face it, Glee is going to be in Hall H. There is no other way to accommodate all of those people!

Last year, The Twilight Saga: New Moon swept over the Convention. Since the newest Twilight flick will be arriving before the convention and filming has to to begin on the fourth installment, chances are it won’t be around this year. My prediction: Glee is going to be in the new Twilight.

There is an even better chance that the new sign thrown around at this year’s convention will be, “Glee ruined Comic Con.” Granted, Glee is the biggest show on television, but a common complaint amongst the die-hard conventioneers (including your truly), “Is this even about comic books anymore?” The answer is, no it’s not.

Comic book aside, the list of intended programming thus far looks pretty awesome. There is always something for everyone at this Fandome Faire.

While I am looking forward to all that this year has to offer, I personally hope there is more hype for Tron: Legacy. The film is set to come out this Christmas and they have been advertising this at the Convention as early as 2008.Last year, they had set up Flynn’s Arcade in Downtown San Diego, which was easily my favorite thing to ever be at the show. I am crossing my fingers that the iconic Arcade is set up once again with different surprise behind the Tron game.

I will continue to dish the dirt on programming as more arrives. I will also be blogging while I am at the Convention itself.

San Diego Comic Con International will be running from July 22nd – 25th, with preview night on July 21st. Hope to see you there!

There is some sincere irony in this post. It was less than 24 hours ago that I yelled at one of my co-workers because I HATE spoilers. Yet here I am, not only reading about them, but posting them too. There aren’t HUGE spoilers. They are vague at best. Tim, this one is for you.

Glee, the smash fit phenomena, just concluded their freshmen run of the air. According to the ratings, it has hit a record for the highest rated season finale of a first year show. It’s been renewed into its 3rd season and the writer’s and producers definitely have their work cut out for them.

Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator gave a glimpse of what is in store for Season 2, which includes adding a series of new characters: love interests for Kurt and Mercedes and a new rival for Rachel – a Christian Country music singer.

While not much else has been nailed down (or nothing they want to disclose) they do seem to know where Season 2 will end:

“I know that Season 2 ends at Nationals in New York. I don’t know if they’ll make it – we haven’t figured that out.”

As a fan… I am sincerely worried about where this show is going. What grade are they all in anyway?! You have at least three more seasons to kick out and they can’t justify how everyone is sticking around high school much longer than anyone should.

A perfect example is the show Greek. Greek is one of my most treasured shows. The entire concept of the show hangs on the fact that they are all college students in the Greek system. When they first introduce most of the main characters, they are all juniors. They are now heading into season 3 and all have yet to graduate. How did they accomplish this? Messing with the space time continuum! Instead of an entire season taking place over the course of a year… a whole season would chronicle the events of a semester at school or even in some cases a quarter. This gives you plenty of time to spend with these kids and still keep them in their high school setting.

I would also love to see some character development on Mike and Matt. You know those tow guys in the back that hardly ever get any writer love!? What the pants! They are full fledge members of Glee and deserve to have a character trait beyond being know as the guy who dances or “Other Asian.” Why add more characters when you could develop the ones you have?

I also feel that the show needs to get better at the storyarchs. Many of the great storylines that start get resolved within an episode or two. They got it right in the first half of the first season with the truth about Quinn’s Baby-Daddy and Mrs. Shue’s fake pregnancy. Maybe the Jesse St. James introduction was supposed to do that, but it fell a little flat in hitting a home run.

While I’m a big fan of the show, it’s starting to head into “Repetitive Town.”

Please Ryan Murphy! You have an amazing opportunity here, don’t screw it up!

Oh the Twilight fans… they are a crazy bunch. I know, I’m one of them. The series is probably one of the most obsessive things you can ever find yourself caught up in. A lot of people compare the book series to Harry Potter. I understand how offensive this statement can be to Harry Potter fans, but please allow me to explain.

There is something that happens when you are reading the Harry Potter series. To quote Twilight, “It’s like your own personal brand of heroine.” You read until the late hours of the night and any spare moment you can find. The second that you are forced to put the book down, whether it be for something else that demands your attention or sleep, all you can think about is when you can pick the book up again. I had this experience reading both the Harry Potter and Twilight series.

I wanted to share a personal experience that I had over a year ago when reading the second book in the series, New Moon. Below is what I had written about my “ordeal” a day after in had taken place:

While I was on my break yesterday, I picked up New Moon and dived right in. Right when it got to the REALLY good stuff, my break was over and the book had to be put on hold. I spent the remainder of my day anxiously awaiting a time when I could read once again. I found it very difficult to even read scripts for work, as my mind was only focused on one thing. I was 139 pages short of the finish line. I was very aware that I could finish the book the second I got home and had every intention of doing so.

On my drive home, ALL I could think about was how happy I would be the second I could get into my comfy pants, crawl into bed, and surrender myself to the world of vampires and werewolves once again.

I also realized that I would need a Eclipse soon. I stopped into Target and found Eclipse without any trouble at all. I skipped over to the register knowing that I would content for at least another 4 days or so until I had to buy Breaking Dawn.

I walk back to my car, elated. I take my shiny new copy of Eclipse and open my bag to put it in it’s rightful place, next to New Moon.

I was horrified. New Moon was nowhere to be found.

In disbelief, I called my boss and asked him if I had left my book at work. Sure enough, it was sitting right next to my desk, in Sherman Oaks, 35 miles away. My boss said to me, “No worries, you’ll be reunited with it tomorrow.” I agreed and hung up the phone.

Immediately after that moment, it was quite apparent that it wasn’t okay. I was very disappointed as I had been looking forward to my final moments with New Moon all day long.

I ran back into Target. Maybe they would have a paperback copy for cheap. I could buy it tonight and finish the book for a $10 penalty. There were no copies of New Moon to be found. I called the Borders in Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks. No luck there. I even contemplated driving all the way back to Sherman Oaks just to claim my property. I didn’t want to be patient…. not tonight.

My last ditch effort was my call to Barnes & Noble in Westlake. They had a copy and put it on hold for me. The last thing I wanted to do was drive to Westlake, but for the sake of finishing New Moon it would’ve been worth it.

Then lightning struck my brain and I made a phone call. My father works in Thousand Oaks, and should be getting off work soon. I called, more times than was needed, but my father wasn’t answering his phone…

I got a hold of him and franticly ask the favor. All he had to do was pick the book up and bring it home. All of the work was taken care of otherwise. My father laughed at me, rightfully so. I didn’t care though. Dave agreed. Partly because I am his only child and he loves me very much, also because he was very amused that I was going to such lengths just to read a book meant for 13 year-old girls.

I sat through an episode of the ill-fated Pushing Daisies. Ned was a fine distraction for the time being.

I stayed up until a little past 11:30pm reading.

Yes, I have a new love…

Stephanie Meyers, what the hell have you done to me?

Exactly, what had been done to me? It wasn’t a horrible thing either. It’s fact that they aren’t the best books ever written, but they are extremely addicting and the mythology is so strong you can’t help but love it.

So Summit figured out how to capitalize on the property and now Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner are big stars, but that’s not why I want to give Stephanie Meyers some snaps…

The reality is, there are too many people out there (of all ages) who do not read enough. The trick is to find material that is engaging and makes you not want to put it down. I was an anti-reader my entire life until I read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. Twilight is merely an example of one of those kinds of books. Regardless of “bad writing” I do feel that Stephanie Meyer should be celebrated for that fact alone.

For the record, that was an entirely true story.

This is absolutely hilarious.

There are some obsessed Lost fans out there. If you aren’t one, chances are you know someone who can’t get enough of the mystery series. I was one of those people that completely missed the train. I also knew it wasn’t one of those shows you could jump in the middle. As many of you know, I’m a fan of all things nerdy and was pretty sure that if I started watching the show, I would get sucked in and begin to lose hours of my life in dedication to the series. I’ve heard my friends discuss and obsess over the series for years.

Then that day came where I had a little too much free time on my hands. I parked myself in front of my television and watched the entire first season in a matter of three days. Needless to say, I couldn’t have been less impressed if I tried. About half way through the first season I was so bored I didn’t know what to do with myself and I still finish it. I have never watched an episode of Lost since. The truth was, I couldn’t care less if everyone died right then and there. It was so boring.

That’s right, I’m a Lost hater.

Yet, I would still hear my friends go on and on and on. From hearing several conversations regarding the show, I know enough to care even less about what happens in the finale.

I’m not the only one. Sara Benincasa gives the ultimate Lost recap. She has never watched a single episode of Lost. Whether you are a fan of the show or not, this is really funny.

Note: This is the first edition of a new article segment I am dubbing “The Hit List.” This is will be a Top 10 List on various topics. ENJOY!

Summer movie season is getting to the kick off this Friday with the release of Iron Man 2. The summer movie season is the most exciting of the year. For avid movie goers like myself, it usually means a new movie (sometimes two) every week. Below are my picks for the Must See Movies of Summer 2010 (listed in order of release date):

Iron Man 2

In Theaters May 7th

RDJ is back in full force as Iron Man. The summer hit of 2008 is back for more in this highly anticipated sequel. Everyone is back, except for Terrance Howard who has been replaced by the amazing Don Cheadle. I don’t think I need to say much more. This one is expected to break box office records. I’ll have a review up first thing tomorrow!

MacGruber

In Theaters May 21st

The SNL movie is not quite as dead as we thought. Will Forte is taking his spoof of MacGyver to the big screen in MacGruber! They even got Ryan Philippe and Val Kilmer to join the cast. If that alone isn’t worth seeing it, I don’t know what is. The trailer looks great and the early reviews are putting it on the same mantel as Wayne’s World. Hopefully this will live up to the hype. I secretly wish that large portion of dialogue will only use the word “Pepsi.”

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

In Theaters May 28th

I smell another Pirates of the Caribbean-like franchise in the works! While this is based on a popular video game, this looks like the love-child of Pirates of the Caribbean (the 1st and ONLY good one) and the Mummy (also, the 1st and ONLY good one). Needless to say, I am sold and excited. I have this thing about sword fighting movies and Jerry Bruckheimer has a pretty good track record with franchise kick-offs, all signs point to “SWEEET!”

Get Him to the Greek

In Theaters June 4th

Forgetting Sarah Marshall‘s Albus Snow gets his very own movie in Get Him to the Greek. While movie was funny all on it’s own, Russell Brand’s incarnation of the fictional British rocker hit such a cord with audiences that he couldn’t be left alone. With Jonah Hill plays the driver charged with the task of getting Albus Snow to the theater on time and in one piece, this should be nothing sort of pure comedy genius.

Note: This poster makes me angry. Take a close look and you will notice that Russell Brand’s hands have been photo-shopped. It looks like his hand is ALL pinky fingers.

A-Team

In Theaters June 11th

There trailer for this movie is so action packed I can’t even tell you! For a film version of an old television show, this actually looks very promising. This may be some of the greatest casting I have seen in a very long time. Bradley Cooper and Liam Neeson are always a treat, but what I am looking forward to most all of is watching Sharlto Copley (District 9) be awesome!

Toy Story 3

In Theaters June 18th

Would it really be summer without a Pixar flick? The original Pixar movie, the one that started the craze of the computer generated movie, is back for a third go around. Toy Story holds a very special place in the hearts of movie goers. I felt that the second one out did it’s predecessor in a lot of way. In general, Pixar knows how to put together a good story and wouldn’t dare to taint the image of these classic films, so a third wouldn’t even happen if they didn’t think they could do something real with it. It makes me all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it and the trailer makes me cry EVERY time.

Knight & Day

In Theaters June 25th

I will admit I am not the biggest fan of Tom Cruise, but why does this movie look amazing? Tom Cruise seems like he’s the kind of guy that takes himself a little too seriously, but to watch him play straight out comedy and make fun of himself should prove to be a great time. This is going to be Mission: Impossible comedic style with a dash of the Tom Cruise we got in Tropic Thunder.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse (honorable mention)

In Theater June 30th

Yes, I included Twilight. I know, I know. Let’s face it, these movies make stupid amounts of money and this installment will be no exception. The saga of the sparkling vampires continue, but this one is the most action packed. Yeah, vampires and werewolves fighting it out and Bella has to pick a team. LOVE IT!

The Last Airbender

In Theaters July 2nd

An American made live action movie based on an anime? I know, my head is spinning too! Although I am not a fan of the series (not that I dislike it, I’ve just never watched it), this looks pretty badass. The king of the twists, M. Night Shyamalan is doing something a little out of his normal box. Granted he wrote the screenplay along with directing, but the fact that this isn’t an original piece could be very promising. The trailers look AWESOME and mythology of the series and characters are very strong. Perhaps he can redeem himself after The Happening.

Inception

In Theaters July 16th

Fact: Christopher Nolan can do no wrong. If you were wondering what the hold up was on Batman 3, here is your answer. Director Christopher Nolan wanted to slip this pet project between making the best comic book movies ever. Inception will bend your mind, literally. It’s hard to make heads or tails of the trailer, but it draws you in. Leonardo DiCapiro, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page star with Batman alum Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy, and Ken Wantanbe.

The Other Guys

In Theaters August 6th

The buddy cop movie gets even better. By the looks of it, this is going to accomplish everything that Cop Out wish it had. Will Farrell is a vertan to making us all laugh and pairing him against Mark Wahlberg is the GREATEST idea. I think Mark Wahlberg is hilarious and the trailer is great. I’ll be there opening weekend, but I am a little afraid that all of the funny parts are in the trailer.

If you have been paying attention you would’ve notice that I mention 11 movies instead of the promised 10. The reality is, I couldn’t leave The Twilight Saga: Eclipse off the list, so it has a honorable mention.

What movies are you guys looking forward to this Summer?

As some of you may have already seen, I posted a Trailer Watch article for the film Paranormal Activity. From what I hear, it looks like we have a new Blair Witch Project on our hands. The big difference, you know EXACTLY what you are walking into and this should prove to be ten times more terrifying.

I got very excited for the limited release that was supposed to happen today… but I found myself to be extremely disappointed and surprised.

I have a co-worker that attended the midnight showing of the film last night. He called into the office and relayed this to me:

“Tell him that I’m running a little late. It’s because my alarm didn’t go off this morning and not because I had to sleep with every single light on in the house.”

According to my co-worker, you could feel the tension in the room when the film switched to night-time footage. People would shift in their seats and prepare themselves for an attack.

Sounds like my kind movie!

So, being me, I hop online to find local show times. Thank goodness I live in Los Angeles, where limited release films are always sure to surface. However, my location didn’t help me at all! The movie isn’t showing ANYWHERE!

Turns out the films got a limited release in theaters across America for a midnight showing ONLY.

If you were one of the lucky and privileged few, now is the time to be VERY thankful.

Paranormal Activity has had a hell of a time getting a theatrical release of any kind. Even though Paramount agreed to do it (and they did for the limited midnight showings) it would appear that they are reluctant to take it a step further.

Or are they?

This may be one of the most genius moves I’ve seen in a long time. The word of mouth on this film was already getting around, now there is even more to talk about. Viral marketing at it’s best my friends. I may not be able to see the movie now, but I think it is only a matter of time before it hit theaters nation wide. It took The Blair Witch Project awhile before it got its wide distribution.

Do original ideas exist anymore? Granted, I don’t believe there is such thing as an original stories anymore, juts different and creative ways of telling them. Film is an enjoyable art form as well as a great source of entertainment to us all. Regardless of that, at the end of the day Hollywood is nothing more than a money making machine. If something worked once, why not try it again?

As a result we have a brash of sequels on their way. Not that this is surprising, but it seems like film franchises are bigger than they ever were when I was growing up.

Terminator 5 – It looks like the most recent venture by director McG with Terminator: Salvation did well enough to give it another go. The film is set for a release date of 2011 and Christian Bale and McG are slated to return. I would really appreciate it if they got back to their roots a little bit on this one. A little bit of time travel wouldn’t hurt, you know?

Underworld 4 – Why can’t Vampire and Lycans just get along? So another one of these are headed our way. As cheese-like as these films are, there is something about the characters and mythology that I really enjoy. They have no story details yet. The real question is, will this be a prequel piece like Rise of the Lycans or a continuation of Selene and Michael? This is also set of a 2011 release date.

Saw VI – It’s hard to imagine a Halloween without the newest Saw flick hitting theaters. These movies cost almost nothing to make and they bank at the box office. Honestly, they should ride this train as far as it can take them. When was the last time that we had a massive and original horror franchise like this? The Rob Zombie remakes of Halloween don’t count.

Transformers 3 – Apparently Revenge of the Fallen wasn’t bad enough. Seriously, this is beating a dead horse.

This is just a small list that I can only imagine will grow within the months to come.

This is probably one of the biggest films to come out of the Hollywood machine in a long time. There are numerous reports that the budget of the film exceeded $300 million. James Cameron doesn’t do anything small. Considering that Titanic was one of the biggest films ever made for it’s time, it’s quite obvious that Cameron is moving on to bigger things.

I was one of the fortunates that got to see 25 minutes of footage screened at Comic Con 2009 in San Diego, California. Like most of the people/geeks there, I was super excited to see what Cameron was bringing to us.

The movie is filled with an all-star cast and extreme detail was taken to create the fictional planet and culture of Pandora, where the majority of the film takes place. Everyone worked super hard on the film and it was an undertaking that was 10 years in the making. It’s filled with the cutting edge of CGI technology, blah, blah, blah.

After watching the footage, the crowd was in an uproar of excitement. I sat there completely perplexed because I nearly fell asleep during the 25 minutes of CGI 3D footage.

This movement in Hollywood to use CGI and 3D is getting very tired very fast. Technology is a great thing, don’t get me wrong. It’s these computer generated images that bring places and creatures to life that could only exist in our imaginations. However, they should be used to supplement the story. At the end of the day, if you don’t have a strong story you don’t have anything at all. George Lucas is more guilty of this than anyone. He over saturated the new Star Wars films with all of the pretty things he could do with his computers and completely neglected the characters and the story.

I fear that Avatar may fall victim to the same fate. The movie is 40% live action and 60% photo-realistic CGI. Please bare in mind, there is never going to be a moment in the film where you are tricked in believing that it is “real” and NOT computer generated. Yes, the effects look great, but you’ll never forget that it’s CGI.

James Cameron

There is seems to be a lot of care that went into the creation of the world and the technology that is applied, but nothing to the characters or the story. The only thing they mention about this story is the plot to save and destroy Pandora. I just hope that the movie has a strong emotional kick to it that makes it worth watching, because based on the footage I saw there is nothing engrossing or interesting about the characters.

This is what seriously worries me about the project. Cameron is planning on releasing footage to theaters across the country in 3D is help “raise awareness” of the film. These mini screenings will even be free of charge. Honestly, this sounds like BIG RED FLAG. It appears the studio is nervous about the film and are afraid people won’t know about it. Massive buzz is already surrounding the movie. If you have a movie on your hands that’s directed by one of the biggest names in Hollywood and it’s as amazing as you claim it to be, what are you raising awareness for? It’s called advertising. Cut together a good trailer. Everyone and their mother will see this movie and anyone who misses it on opening weekend will see it after word of mouth gets around that it is so great. Not to mention, the true die hards will return for multiple viewings. The mini screenings feel like a bad publicity stunt and I think that this movie could turn out to be a huge flop.

I’d love for this movie to be amazing, but based on the footage I’ve seen I’ve been left with nothing but skepticism. I will keep an open mind as there may be more to this than meets the eye.

DC is jumping on the film franchise bandwagon. Well, why wouldn’t they, right? They’ve sat by while their rival Marvel is banking big off of a number of their properties: X-Men, Spider-man, Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor. The fact that DC hasn’t expanded beyond titles like Batman and Superman is completely beyond me.

Ryan Reynolds

Word on the street is that there is an Aquaman movie in development right now and Leonardo DiCaprio is slated to produce. This is added to the list of Green Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds as well as the Flash movie that is also in the works.

There are a fair amount of people in this world that wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between a DC and a Marvel superhero. There is a distinctive difference when it comes to the kind of characters that these publishing companies offer. In general, DC has characters that are more iconic. Characters like, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the Flash are heroes that are placed on a pedestal and treated almost like Greek Gods. They have alter egos and function in a separate reality. One the other hand Marvel offers characters that are regular Joes while superhuman abilities; they live in real cities, and often don’t bother with a secret identity. Marvel characters seem to be more accessible to someone as the characters deal with problems and issues that aren’t just relegated to fighting villains.

Demon in a Bottle

Tony Stark, Iron Man, infamously dealt with issues of alcoholism for many years. What is the biggest issue that Superman has ever faced?

With that being said, it’s no wonder that Marvel is having such great success with the expansion of their character library into the film world. Although the characters are extremely relatable, DC does have a leg up in some ways. Because of the iconic status of their characters, they are living in marketing heaven. A new Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman project hits people already have a pretty good idea of what it is. Prior to Iron Man’s introduction into films, most people weren’t aware of this hero in the same way.

DC has these iconic characters, too bad they don’t seem to know what to do with them. It has great marketability; the problem is the characters themselves seem to be very flat. Batman is the only character that has real depth, but prior to the Christopher Nolan, the Batman films weren’t anything to really write home about. Superman Returns was a desperate attempt to revive the dead franchise, which turned into a grave-digging venture.

Marvel is now making their entire universe known by making separate characters films and loosely tying them all together. I will admit that for the most part Marvel Studios does have their crap together. DC has been attached to Warner Brothers Studios for years. You think they would’ve already got it together by now! Granted, making a good superhero movie didn’t seem possible until the first X-Men film hit theaters. It wasn’t the greatest movie ever but it did pave the way for Spider-man, and the film industry hasn’t been the same since.

DC really needs to start putting more attention into their characters as people first and heroes second. To struggle with relationships, what it means to be a super hero, making choices, consequences of their actions.

I really feel that DC has something real to build on. The point is, times are changing. The way that we view super heroes is changing as well. If DC plays their cards right they have a chance to blow Marvel out of the water.
