My newest obsession is Paranormal Activity. Have I seen the movie? No.
However, like many people across the country, I have fallen victim to the ever present viral marketing. Just as I predicted, Paranormal Activity is following in the footsteps of The Blair Witch Project. As many might recall, The Blair Witch Project caused a phenomena across the country. This wasn’t done by ad campaigns. This was all viral marketing and word of mouth.
Paranormal Activity had this little baby release of 13 locations, midnight showings, one night only. The word was spread about people losing sleep and how this may be the scariest movie to hit cinemas in a long time. The people demanded more and their prayers were answered. However, it was still not enough.
The website eventful.com is holding a contest on behalf of Paramount: If demand for the film hits 1,000,000 people it will get a wide release! Currently the number is set to a sad 377,487 and counting.
