You can FINALLY see the long anticipated trailer for Avatar here.

Like everyone else on the planet, I was looking forward to seeing the trailer. I was one of the lucky 6,500 people that got to see 25 minutes of footage at Comic Con this year. For those of you who already read my assessment of the film (if you haven’t you can check it out here) I was less than impressed with what I saw. I kept an open mind in, hoping that there was something deeper that I was maybe missing.
The trailer didn’t help at all. In fact it merely solidified my position on the matter.
James Cameron might be turning into George Lucas. Ever since Lucas figured out all the really cool things computers could do, he’s abandoned any attempt at effective story telling and over saturated his films with pretty special effects. The original Star Wars trilogy was so good because the special effects were there to supplement the story, not depend on it.
So what about Avatar? I feel that this movie is going to be completely void of a strong story and be a mere exercise in the awesome power of computers. I will say that the trailer did pack more of an emotional punch than the Comic Con footage did. Maybe there is still hope for it yet.
I would however like to quote some people that I know who watched the trailer and their reactions. Please bare in mind, these were their reactions before hearing anything that I had to say.
Reaction 1: “It’s like a cartoon that you would see on a Saturday morning show that someone spent $500 million dollars on.”
Reaction 2: “It bi-curious.”
Like my friends I am left confused and unimpressed, rather than excited. Sure you spent a ton of money and putting in all this DETAIL, what about you’re story?! HMMMM!?
Honestly, I am interested in your reactions. I know I will hear them for you!
Every few years we are blessed with a cartoon that Hollywood spent 100+ Million dollars on. We had the Star Wars movies a few years ago, and now this Avatar doesn’t look like money well spent. I can only hope this isn’t the downfall of another well respect director who possibly hit his prime in the 1990′s and just doesn’t know how to transition to the new Hollywood.
Nicely said Miss Geek Maggie!
I hope your wrong.
trailer is dreadful.
I liked the teaser w/The Drifters’ ‘Up on the Roof’ mixing into James Horner’s would-be score music, better
James Cameron perfected the Disaster movie w/Titanic. He’s unfortunately redefining that w/Avatar.
Fox is not making that money back.
But, they’ll have “better” cgi technology for the next Michael Bay movie.
I feel like the story wont be too bad. Hopefully.
I guess I’m the only one to dissent. I wasn’t that big on the trailer until I saw it in theaters before Basterds, at that point I had been underwhelmed, having only seen the trailer on my iPhone and computer. It played a lot better on the big screen, the effects looked much better when given space to really shine. Also, unlike George Lucas, whose only interest seems to be technology, and using said technology to make his bank account grow, James Cameron always seems to use technology to allow him to tell stories he has a passion for. Terminator 2 and Titanic are both perfect examples of his ability to utilize cutting edge technology in service to the story. Maybe I’m just a fanboy, but I think Cameron has proven that he is one of (if not the best) writer/directors working in the sci-fi/action/blockbuster business. So, in the case of Avatar, I’m gonna give him a break, having been so passionate about this film for so long, I’m sure he’s got something special in store for us. But then again, who knows? The only thing I’m sure of is that my butt will be in the seat for the first midnight show I can get into.
